Yes folks it is Friday and the weekend is here. This past week has really been an interesting one with a good few "eye openers" and there are a few things I really want to share with everyone.
I think the week started for a lot of people including our household with the hype of the Power Ball drawing and the huge jackpot. And yes we were one of those families that go out on a regular basis and buy a ticket with the hopes of winning it big. Then on Wednesday before the drawing took place I heard something that really disturbed me, but before I get into that I want to let you know that we do consider ourselves to be a christian family and I do call myself a man of God and of Faith.
With that said, the thing that I heard that disturbed me was that the majority of lottery tickets that are bought are from people that are in the low income earning bracket. That is households that earn less than $25k per year and that they spend 9% of their income on lottery tickets per year.( that is over $2200 per year) With the odds of 1 in 175 million chance of winning, that is very sad to say the least.
The second thing I heard and this hit me like a rock is that many people actually will pray asking God to give them the winning ticket to help them out. Well when you look at a few things in life ( how we have excluded God from everything around us) and the fact that the lottery is gambling and theoretically you are taking from the poor to become rich ( which I might add goes totally against scripture), I personally do not think God wants any part of that and so should you play it and win, you are a pure statistical winner and you happened to have the correct combination that day. It has nothing to do with God.
I am not condemning the lottery and saying it should be banned (Unless we find out that they really do nothing to help education), I am just saying that more people need to sit down and really give it some thought before throwing away that dollar instead of saving it. Putting it in a dollar figure with the ticket now costing $2, you have a 1 in $350.000.000.00 chance of winning. I think I have made up my mind that saving that $2 per ticket will do more good for me in the long run :)
Those are my thoughts and views for the week. I would love to hear your views on it and you can do that by leaving comments below or on FaceBook
I pray you all have a fantastic weekend and God Bless.
